Dog Sports Photography

Presentation Description:

The presentation will focus on dog sports photography, including gear, camera settings, as well as editing.  Special techniques that are unique to successfully capturing dogs competing in Agility, Disc, and Dock Diving will be discussed and examples will be shown to demonstrate the concepts.

Bio:

Nancy has had a lifelong interest in photography, starting as a child with a Polaroid and Kodak camera. While her early career as a veterinarian left little time for photography, she returned to it about 10 years ago, initially focusing on sports photography. She became a photographer for University of Toronto Athletics, gaining on-field access to football games and developing strong skills in fast-paced shooting environments. Her background in competitive equestrian sports naturally led her to photographing horse sports, where her understanding of movement and timing proved invaluable. From there, she expanded into dog sports photography, including agility, dock diving, and disc dog competitions—combining her love of sports, animals, and photography. In recent years, Nancy has also focused on strengthening her editing and retouching skills, alongside exploring still life and family portraiture. Most recently, she has been deeply engaged in dog portrait photography. She describes the experience as both challenging and rewarding, emphasizing the importance of building trust and connection with each dog she photographs.
